Anna Katharine Green has been called the Mother of the Detective Novel. The Leavenworth Case is the first installment in the first American detective series ever. Green was enormously influential in the genre and a very popular writer, known for her well-plotted and legally accurate depictions of investigations and trials.  Agatha Christie cited Green as a major influence on her own work as an author.
